Rusted Root

Sunday, July 18th
8 p.m.

The Sheffield Garden Walk is elated to have Rusted Root returning after their inaugural jam-packed, high-energy set in 2009. Known for their rhythmic/world beat/roots/rock style of music and high energy along with inspiring live shows, Rusted Root has toured the world and received national airplay since their start in the early 90s in Pittsburgh. Led by Michael Glabicki, the groups’ major-label debut album was 1994’s “When I Woke,” a hit on college radio and a platinum record. The album included the hit song “Send Me on My Way,” which became a national hit and has since been used in numerous movies including “Ice Age.” Today, the band remains a mix of world, folk, and rock and continues to tour nationally as well as maintain a strong Chicago following. Their most recent CD, their first studio album in seven years, “Stereo Radio,” was released in 2009.

Ivan Neville's Dumpstaphunk

Sunday, July 18th
6 p.m.

It ain't cool unless it's funky, and Ivan Neville's band, Dumpstaphunk, updates the classic '70s funk with a hard urban edge, a little jam-band stretching, and of course a light sprinkling of New Orleans R&B/jazz vibe, kind of like the cayenne they sprinkle on crawfish jambalaya: a little bit to give the music a flavorful kick, but not so much that you don't want seconds. Formed in 2003, Ivan Neville’s Dumpstaphunk initially was put together by keyboardist Ivan Neville on a whim in order to perform a solo gig at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival. Ivan called in cousin Ian Neville (guitar), the double-bass bottom of both Nick Daniels and Tony Hall, and drummer Raymond Weber to round out the show. Named after a song Ivan had recently written, Dumpstaphunk’s informal performance became that of immediate legend. The project has since grown from a chance side-project into what now is widely considered to be New Orleans’ most popular musical export. The band was voted 2007’s “New Orleans Best Funk Band” by both Offbeat Magazine and Gambit Weekly, and performs at some of the nation’s largest music festivals such as Bonnaroo, Voodoo Fest, 10,000 Lakes, and High Sierra. Their self-titled CD was released in 2007.

Hello Dave

Sunday, July 18th
3:30 p.m.

Spending almost a decade developing and redefining their place as one of the best bands to come out of Chicago, Hello Dave continues to spread their sound to fans across the country. Beginning in college at Eastern Illinois University, Hello Dave has grown into an international touring band, playing throughout the US and overseas in Europe and Southeast Asia. With a sound uniquely their own, Hello Dave combines the sounds of classic and southern rock with pop, country, and rhythm and blues. The band’s ability to involve and connect with their audience during every performance has earned them an intensely devoted fan base with a great love and enthusiasm for the band. Hello Dave’s most recent CD, “Chicago Twang,” was released in 2009.

Big Sky String Band

Sunday, July 18th
2:00 p.m.

Big Sky String Band is a Chicago-based folk-rock band that performs a broad collection of original American roots music, traditional songs, and unique covers with a bluesy, bluegrass, rockabilly feel. Founded by Jay Stanek (guitarist/vocals) and Chris Meier (mandolin/vocals), the band builds a new generation of folk-rock and jam music around its core strengths: solid songwriting and textured grooves. With Brandon Cochran (lead guitar/vocals), Dick Mallory (fretless bass), and Zach Malasto (drums), the quintet stands on the shoulders of Americana music with only the big sky above. With songs of long roads, broken fences, and train wrecks, Big Sky reflects the influences of Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Yonder Mountain String Band, and The Freddy Jones Band. Their most recent CD, “Flyin’ Blind,” was released in 2005, followed by “Turning of the Wheel,” a six-song EP released in 2007.

Katie Todd

Sunday, July 18th
1:15 p.m.

The Sheffield Garden Walk is proud to announce the recent addition of Katie Todd to Sunday’s Line-up. Katie has appeared at the SGW four previous times, most recently in 2008. She will be coming right off playing Lilith Fair in Tinley Park on Saturday. Lauded by iTunes.com as having one of the “top buzz bands in the country,” Katie Todd claimed a spot as the web site’s “Artist of the Week,” earning over 300,000 downloads for the single, “Face Down.” Katie has shared the stage with Jewel, Kenny Loggins, The Wallflowers, and Pete Yorn, and has performed in front of packed audiences at venues and festivals such as House of Blues and Lollapalooza. Many of her songs have been featured in films: “Leave” in Chasing the Green, starring Jeremy London, “The Polite” in The Mini, and “In and Around” in Other People’s Parties, a Sundance finalist. This song was also picked by National Geographic to be the theme for its “Go Green” campaign. On her new release, “Mumbled Speech,” Katie demonstrates gentle strength and versatility. She captures beautiful moments through raw, emotion-filled lyrics, with melodies that are both catchy and haunting. It’s no wonder Chicago Arts & Entertainment Magazine calls Katie “a breath of fresh air that the Chicago music scene has been waiting for” and Singer Magazine says “ [h]er unique voice is enchanting and her musical style is captivating; there is a welcome depth to the songs, and a heartfelt message intertwined with her talented handling of the piano.” “Mumbled Speech” is available now. The video for her first single “ Love Love Love You ” is also finished and you can see it by visiting Katie's YouTube Channel:

School of Rock

Sunday, July 18th
12:30 p.m.

The Sheffield Garden Walk is pleased to have School of Rock return for a third consecutive year. School of Rock is an educational program for kids ages 9 to 17 who want to learn how to play music and to play in a rock band. The school’s goals are to help their students realize their potential as artists, to put them on stage in front of as many people as possible, and to help foster a new generation of incredible musicians. School of Rock has schools in many cities around the country, and their students have played over 500 shows a year. The Chicago school is located on Ashland near Belmont and will be presenting approximately 18 of their students that qualify to be in their “touring” band. This promises to be an exciting show for kids and adults of all ages as the School of Rock band will be playing rock and pop songs from the last four decades.
